What is self-publishing?
Self-publishing is a way for an author to publish their book independently, without going through a traditional publishing house. The author stays in control of the entire process—from the manuscript to sales—and keeps the majority of the earnings.
How does Amazon KDP Work?
Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is Amazon’s self-publishing system that allows an author to upload a book and sell it on Amazon without paying upfront publishing fees. You create an account, upload your manuscript and cover, add your book details, set a price, and publish. Once the book is live, Amazon lists it on its website, and when a customer buys a copy, Amazon either delivers the ebook instantly or prints and ships the physical book using print-on-demand. Amazon then takes its portion of the sale and pays you the remaining royalty. You keep control of your book and rights, but you are responsible for editing, design, and marketing—the platform simply provides the storefront, printing, and payment processing.

How do I market my book?
Marketing your book means letting the right readers know your book exists and giving them a reason to care. It starts with being clear about who your book is for, because a children’s book, a romance novel, and a business book are all marketed very differently. Once you know your audience, you focus on showing up where they already spend time—online, in communities, or in physical spaces—and talking about your book in a way that connects to their needs, interests, or emotions.
