Book Club
Are you ready to embark on a literary journey that expands your reading list and empowers authors prepared to share their stories with the world? If your answer is yes, we are thrilled to introduce you to a unique experience – The SPC Book Club. Why join us on this adventure? Here are a few compelling reasons: Dive into Unique Stories, Support Self-Published Authors, Transformative Reading Experience, Connect Beyond Borders, and Exclusive Access.
MISSION
The mission of The SPC Book Club is to create a platform that promotes a community to support self-published authors through reading and engaging in discussions about works of literature produced by Jamaican and Caribbean self-published authors. It’s important for us to play our part and read literature by these authors who may go unrecognized globally. The self-published authors to be supported are those writing literature that motivates, inspires, educates, and passes on Christian values to enrich the Kingdom of God.
VISION
To increase reading and literacy discourse in Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean and to support Kingdom building. We will host monthly meetings, perform community outreach, and promote and support self-publishing authors and businesses.

Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A MEMBERSHIP FEE?
You can join SPC for free but with limited access. There are 2 membership tiers that provide discounts on books in the SPC bookstore and other benefits such as eligibility to participate in monthly giveaways, access to members-only Facebook groups, and the ability to participate in other book club activities. The fees are collected to facilitate discounts, giveaways, and partial funding of community outreach projects.
HOW OFTEN DOES THE GROUP MEET UP TO DISCUSS READINGS?
We read one book a month and meet on the last Saturday of each month. Many people use Saturdays for destressing and decompressing, so why not spend it with like-minded people as a means of self-care?
HOW ARE THE BOOKS SELECTED?
The founder mainly selects the books; however, based on your membership tier, you can recommend books in alignment with SPC’s mandate for discussions. Recommendations with a full rundown of the book(s) must be made a week before our next meeting date. We will then vote on the book recommendation at the subsequent meeting.
HOW OLD DO YOU NEED TO BE TO JOIN THE CLUB?
You (or any approved guest) must be 18 to join and participate in our group.
IS THE BOOK CLUB OPEN TO ANY AND EVERYONE?
The book club is open to the public as we try to build our community. However, the founder must discuss this with the individual to verify if the individual’s values align with SPC’s mandate. The individual must attend three consecutive meetings and actively participate. Referrals are welcomed but are also subject to a discussion with the founder. Each SPC member is required to participate actively in discussions and other SPC activities.
HOW CAN I JOIN?
To join, go to the Book Club page on our website, www.theselfpublishconnection.com, and fill out the application form providing your name, contact number, email, and social media handles. Membership consideration is based on attendance at 3 consecutive meetings and active participation. If you cannot join but want to keep up with SPC meetings, follow us on Instagram @theselfpublishconnection, read along, and engage with us. You may also donate to help fund SPC outreach activities.
WHERE ARE THE GROUP MEETINGS LOCATED?
Our monthly meetings occur on the ZOOM platform every second Saturday at 6 pm. We have 3 in-person meetings per year where we have our book club discussion, socialize, and conduct our outreach activities.
CAN I PAUSE MY SUBSCRIPTION WITH SPC?
If you choose to pause your membership subscription with SPC, you must notify the founder of your wish to do so by the 25th of the previous month. Inactivity beyond 90 days (via Facebook, monthly in-person, or virtual discussions) will deactivate your account and access to SPC’s private platforms. You must complete the application form and discuss it with the founder to renew your membership.
HOW CAN I JOIN THE SPC RETREAT?
You must hold an active subscription membership to gain access to the annual SPC retreat, which takes place on the Anniversary of SPC’s first meeting (the last Saturday of July each year).
